Master of Sacred Theology
Candidates who already possess a B.A. in theology or religious studies with at least a good second class standing may apply for admission to a two-year McGill S.T.M. programme.
Those who intend their advanced degree studies to be part of their training towards ordination must satisfy the College that they have covered at least at basic level all the essential ingredients of academic theological study in a manner suited to preparation for ministry.
To complete the requirements of ordination training, the student must follow the S.T.M. with the In-Ministry Year. At the end of this year, the Dip.Min. is awarded.
Students undertaking the M.Div. programme may, depending on the grades achieved in the B.Th. segment, take a one-year S.T.M. before proceeding to the In-Ministry Year.
M.A. and Ph.D. in Religious Studies
Arrangements can be made for M.A. and Ph.D. studies through the Faculty of Religious Studies of McGill. The purpose of these programmes is to encourage advanced study and research, and the Ph.D. in particular will normally lead to an academic career.
